Seven things you can check about any online doctor’s note service before you pay, taken from each company’s own terms, privacy policy and site, and from public registries.

Physician owned
Yes means the business you pay is owned by the clinicians who treat you. No means you are paying a company that hires a separate medical practice, or one that names no practice at all. In most states a medical practice has to be owned by licensed clinicians; a company gets around that by contracting one.
Names its physicians
A real medical service tells you who signs the note. Look for a physician name you can check on the federal NPI registry.
Video visit
Whether you have to get on camera. Most notes do not need one: federal guidance counts secure messaging with a licensed provider as telehealth. No means a form is enough; Optional means video is offered or chat is used; Yes means a live visit is required.
Promised speed
The time each company promises on its own site. A promise is not a measurement; ask what happens if it is missed.
Privacy protected
A real medical practice has to publish a privacy notice under the federal health-privacy law (HIPAA). Yes means the company publishes one. Claimed only means it says it follows the law but publishes nothing. No means the law is never mentioned.
Trustpilot
Reviews a company cannot edit. Read the one-star ones; they show what happens when something goes wrong.
Website since
A site that appeared a few months ago has no track record with employers or schools yet. Older is not better by itself, but newer is a question to ask.
