Does Stellantis accept an online doctor’s note?

Since February 12, 2024, Stellantis' no-fault attendance procedure under the 2023 UAW contract gives one point for every day of absence and does not accept doctor's notes to excuse them; only FMLA and sickness-and-accident (S&A) leave keep their medical-documentation route. FMLA and approved leave remain protected.

What Stellantis (UAW hourly) workers are told

Absences tracked
No-fault points procedure under Letter M-8 of the 2023 UAW-Stellantis agreement, effective February 12, 2024: 1 point per day of absence; 0.5 for the first four tardies in a rolling 12 months, then 1 each; 0.5 for late notification and 1 for no notification; written warning at 6 points, five-day disciplinary layoff at 7-8.5, discharge at 9; one point is recovered for every 90 days without a new point.
Note required
January 2023 plant letters ended excused planned medical appointments; since February 2024 the no-fault procedure also points absences for urgent and immediate medical treatment and 'the Company will not accept or consider medical notes for these absences'. FMLA and S&A leave still require and accept medical documentation.
Where to submit
Report an absence at least 1 hour before your shift (30 minutes for a tardy) through the attendance call-in hotline 1-800-810-2271 or the Attendance Notification app at fca.fyi/callin (UAW Local 1268 notice, 2024). FMLA and S&A paperwork go through the plant's leave process (administrator not verified).
Paid sick time
Paid Absence Allowance (PAA) days under the UAW contract.

What a SickSlip note shows Stellantis HR

The physician’s name and NPI number, the dates you are excused, a document ID, and a verification link HR can open without calling anyone. It does not include your diagnosis. Whether Stellantis accepts it depends on the rule above, not on where the physician saw you: no US state law limits a sick note to in-person visits, and the federal telehealth rules are on telehealth.hhs.gov.

Your state may limit what Stellantis can demand

Twenty states and the District of Columbia have a paid-sick-leave law, and most of them only let an employer ask for a note after three consecutive days. Company policy cannot override that. Check yours in the state-by-state doctor’s note law index.

The rules that sit above Stellantis’s policy

  • Federal leave (FMLA). An employer may require medical certification for a serious health condition, and must give you at least 15 calendar days to return it. 29 CFR 825.305 and U.S. Department of Labor Fact Sheet 28G.
  • Disability (ADA). Points systems applied to disability-related absences have been challenged; medical inquiries must be job-related and consistent with business necessity. EEOC enforcement guidance.
  • State paid-sick-leave law. Twenty states and D.C. limit when any employer, Stellantis included, may demand a note. Every state’s rule, with the statute.
  • Telehealth. Federal guidance treats secure messaging with a licensed provider as telehealth; no state law limits a sick note to in-person visits. telehealth.hhs.gov.
